Spotify Improves Podcast and Audiobook Recommendations Using AI, Expands Partnership with Google Cloud

In a significant move, Spotify has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to use large language models to enhance its podcast and audiobook recommendations. The collaboration aims to improve user experience and provide recommendations tailored to their personal interests.

Training large language models helps Spotify improve user experience and enhance security in audio content

Large language models, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google Bard, rely on being trained using massive amounts of data to generate a variety of texts and content.

A decade ago, Spotify was one of the pioneers of AI in its music recommendation algorithms. Now, the Swedish company is looking to generalize this approach to non-music content like podcasts and audiobooks.

Music streaming giant Spotify aims to boost its revenue by expanding its list of revenue-generating formats, such as podcasts and audiobooks.

In this context, Gustav Söderström, Director of Product and Technology at Spotify, stated that this cooperation is in line with the company's technological development, and with Google Cloud's commitment to building an advanced platform to operate Spotify products and enhance innovation using emerging capabilities of generative artificial intelligence.

Through this expanded partnership with Google, Spotify is also exploring the use of large language models to provide a safer listening experience and identify content that may be harmful to users. This collaboration aims to enhance the safety and quality of audio content provided to users.
